Requetés Milita

The Carlist Requétes came mostly from Navarre and were highly religious, many regarding the war as a holy crusade. They would often be accompanied by priests, who risked their lives to perform last sacrament on the battlefield and who urged the men on.

Illustrations

From Left To Right:

  1. Private in parade uniform, 1939
  2. Navarrese Volunteer 1936-39
  3. Private from the Navarrese Brigades, 1936

The most characteristic elements of the requetés are the red berets and the use of civilian garments such as the checked jacket made with blankets (typical navarrese blankets were checked in brown, green, etc.).

Note also two Requetés emblems: the "San Andres cross", in red over white, and the "detente", a read and yellow emblem representing the Sacred Jesus Christ Heart.
